    The year marks the year anniversary since the Queen Mother began composing her Majesty&#;s historic travel journal, and to mark this occasion, the Queen Mother Library is honored to announce the publication of the Khmer translation of the travel journal of Her Majesty, The Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk. Entitled Witness to History – The Journal of Cambodia&#;s Queen Mother, this unique historical document is Her Majesty&#;s personal account of her observations on her mission and journey to the liberated National United Front of Kampuchea (FUNK) Zone of Cambodia. This journey, undertaken with His Majesty, The King Father Norodom Sihanouk, began with a flight from Peking to Hanoi, then continued by vehicle down the Ho Chi Minh Trail to Siem Reap/Angkor Wat along sections of the Sihanouk Trail over a period of approximately 39 days.

    “His Majesty the King [Father] and the Queen Mother have done so much for the country. I want all young people to be aware. Her book is living proof of her work,” he told The Post.

    In his preface, Chhang noted that the book reflects the original, unedited thoughts of the Queen Mother during the perilous journey, which spanned from Beijing to Hanoi and along the Ho Chi Minh Trail to Angkor Wat in Siem Reap province.

    Despite the turmoil of the time, the Queen Mother’s writings display her grace and elegance. They provide insights into Cambodia’s history and illustrate the enduring human spirit even in the most challenging circumstances.

    The diary not only records the devastation of war but also emphasises the wonders and triumphs of the landscape.

    Queen of Cambodia from to

    Norodom Monineath Sihanouk (Khmer: នរោត្ដម មុនិនាថ សីហនុ, pronounced[nɔroːtɗɑmmɔniːniətsəjhanuʔ]; born Paule Monique Izzi; 18 June ) is the Queen Mother of Cambodia. She was Queen of Cambodia from to , as the wife of King Norodom Sihanouk. She is the widow of King-Father Norodom Sihanouk, whom she married in as the "secondary consort" (Sihanouk married his official wife, Norodom Thavet Norleak, as the "first lady" also in , before being married to Monineath). After Sihanouk and Norleak divorced in , Monineath became the tjänsteman spouse of the King.

    Queen Norodom Monineath Sihanouk and King Norodom Sihanouk had two children: Norodom Sihamoni and Norodom Narindrapong; both were born before their parents married. Her official, full title fryst vatten "Samdech Preah Mahaksatrey Norodom Monineath Sihanouk" (Khmer: សម្តេចព្រះមហាក្សត្រី នរោត្តម មុនិនាថ សីហនុ).
