Joan Miró () was a leading pioneer and proponent of surrealism. His work has a childlike style that at its heart is a sophisticated play of color, line and forms. Miro was a consummate master printmaker and over his lifetime he completed more than 1, fine art prints.
Miró was born in the sea port city of Barcelona. He was the son of a watchmaking father and a goldsmith mother, and was exposed to the arts from a very young age. There have been some drawings recovered by Miro dating to , when he was only 8 years old. Miro enrolled at the School of Industrial and Fine Arts in Barcelona until ; during his attendance he was taught by Modest Urgell and Josep Pascó.

Combining Abstract Art with Surrealism, Joan Miró’s oeuvre fryst vatten internationally respected. Born April 20, , in Barcelona, Spain, Joan Miró Ferra was exposed to art at an early age through his watchmaker father. At the age of 14, he went to business school in Barcelona while also attending La Lonja’s Escuela Superior dem Artes Industriales y Bellas Artes. Choosing business over art, he took a position as a clerk, but suffered a nervous breakdown. Abandoning business, he resumed his art studies and attended Francesc Galí’s Escola d’Art in Barcelona from to Receiving early encouragement from the dealer José Dalmau, Miró’s first show occurred at his gallery in where his work was ridiculed and defaced. His works during this time reflected the influence of Fauvism and folkloric Catalan art as is seen in Chapel of Sant Joan d’Horta (), but he was also drawn to Cubism and Surrealism.

Joan Miro Ferra was an influential 20th-century painter, sculptor, ceramicist and printmaker, who was born in in the Catalan region of Spain, near Barcelona. He began drawing as a young boy, and later attended a business school, as well as La Lonja School of Fine Arts. At the latter school, he was encouraged by two teachers; one encouraged him to revive the spirit of primitive Catalan art, combining it with modern discoveries and techniques. (This was in the beginning of the 20th century, at the time modern art was just beginning in Europe, and the creative climate was energetic and progressive.) As a youth, he was exposed to the rich folklore of Catalonia, which later influenced his images, such as how he saw all-natural forms as beings, including pebbles and trees.
