MORRIS, CHARLES, army and militia officer, surveyor, office holder, politician, and jp; b. 18 Nov. 1759 in Hopkinton, Mass., eldest son of Charles Morris* and Elizabeth Bond Leggett, and grandson of Charles Morris*, first surveyor general of Nova Scotia; m. 18 Nov. 1786 Charlotte Pernette, daughter of Colonel Joseph Pernette, in Halifax, and they had 15 children, including Frederick William*; d. there 17 Dec. 1831.
Charles Morris probably came to Halifax in 1760, when his parents apparently arrived. In March 1778 he was commissioned a lieutenant in the Loyal Nova Scotia Volunteers, a regiment raised in the province, and in September 1779 exchanged into the 70th Foot, then in Halifax. Promoted lieutenant on 6 March 1782, he was placed on half pay at the peace in 1783. Charles Walter Morris, 79, of Newberry, died Saturday, December 8, 2012, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Born on January 5, 1933, in Newberry, he was a son of the late Sam and Helen Franklin Morris. He was a graduate of Newberry College and a Korean War Air Force veteran. He was the retired owner of Morris Furniture Company and a member of Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church.
Mr. Morris is survived by his wife, Nancy F. Morris; a son, Nick (Kim) Morris of Newberry; a daughter, Patti (Yancy) Floyd of Newberry; brothers, Billy Morris and Wayne Morris both of Prosperity; grandchildren, Brandi Riddle, Ashley Mason, Jason Buckner, Kelly Morris, Kristi Floyd and Jennifer Morris; great-grandchildren, Gabi and Colie Riddle. He was predeceased by a daughter, Phyllis Morris and a brother, Donald Morris.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Monday, December 10, 2012, at Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church by the Rev. Dr. Mary Havens. Burial will follow in Rosemont

Donald Robert Morris (November 11, 1924 – December 4/5, 2002) was an American naval officer, Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officer, novelist, military historian and foreign affairs writer. He joined the navy in 1942 and after World War Two studied electrical engineering at the United States Naval Academy. Morris served in the Korean War before joining the CIA in 1956, for whom he carried out anti-espionage duties in Berlin, Paris, Kinshasa and Vietnam. Morris had p
