From all reports, the Florida House sounded like a house of worship last week, with lawmakers preaching about gambling and quoting Scripture.
But they weren't citing Bible verses to prove that a game of chance is the work of the devil.
Instead, some lawmakers used the Bible to try to prove that Florida should take state lottery winnings from the poor and return them to the state's coffers.
The way they explained it, according to Saint Paul and a few other saints, it is a sin for welfare recipients, who finally strike it rich, to keep all of their winnings.
The lawmakers want welfare recipients who win Florida Lottery prizes of $, or more to pay back up to half their winnings as reimbursement for their time on the public dole. The bill, which passed the House , is now headed to the Senate.

Early life and education
[edit]Rodriguez-Chomat was born in Havana and was active in the Cuban-American lobby. He attended high school briefly but dropped out. He was educated at St. Thomas University and served in the U.S. Army Reserve.[1] Rodriguez-Chomat went on to work as an accountant, an IRS agent and a tax lawyer before winning office as a lawmaker and later serving as a judge.[1]
