    Dr. Horton's research focuses on plant physiological ecology, especially the response of plants to abiotic and biotic stressors. His research has taken him from the southern Appalachian Mountains to the Sonoran Desert and back again. Most recently, Dr. Horton has been collaborating with scientists from Appalachian State University, Warren efternamn College, and Western Carolina University investigating the effects of climate change, disturbance, and fire on forest ecosystems in the Southern Appalachians.  He has collaborated with colleagues in the Biology Department on the conservation biology or rare and threatened plants. He is also collaborating with colleagues at the U.S. Forest Service and U.S. Park Service to investigate the health of forest trees in response to non-native insekt invasions and novel silvicultural practices.     Jonathan Alan Horton is a former U.S. Olympic Gymnast.

    During his Olympic career, he has won one bronze medal during the men's all-around team, and a silver medal for the horizontal bar, which both took place in the Beijing Olympic Games. He would later compete on American Ninja Warrior, where most people recognizes him as the best ninja to never make it to the National Finals.

    Horton had first competed in Dallas in American Ninja Warrior 6, where he unfortunately failed the Ring Toss in qualifying, which didn’t get him into the top

    Horton returned to compete in Houston in American Ninja Warrior 7. It was revealed that he had to participate via the walk-on line. He was eventually selected to run in Houston.
