Great idea. My real hobby? Not swimming, not photography, not blog writing. Reading. There are so many I'll start with some relevant highlights. @evmo might want to drop in some Amazon referral links. I'd been meaning to review more of these on the blog on this specific subject but never got around to it (yet).
I'll skip some of the obvious swimming books.
I like adventure books, specifically polar and mountain climbing, because I feel and see the obvious connection to marathon swimming and I'm interested in how people write about these subjects.
What I Talk About When I Talk About Running Haruki Murakami, that is really appropriate for distance swimmers.
Staying With It by John Jerome, a great (non-fiction) book that will also resonate here, of an older swimmer returning to (pool) swimming. OOP but cheaply available on Abebooks etc.

SWIMMING CANADA’S CIRCLE OF EXCELLENCE
The greatest Canadian swimmers of all time are recognized for their outstanding accomplishments and contributions to the sport of swimming through Swimming Canada’s Circle of Excellence.
In order to be considered for nomination, a swimmer must have achieved: a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, Pan American Games or Short Course World championships or; a gold, silver or bronze medal at the Olympics or Long Course World Championships. A Para swimmer must have achieved three individual gold medals at the Paralympic Games (1988 or prior), two individual gold medals at the Paralympic Games (1992-2004), or one individual gold medal at the Paralympic Games (2008 or later).
New inductees will be honoured at special ceremonies throughout the years at various Swimming Canada domestic competitions.
