The Timbavati region is famously known for its rare white lions and people travel from far and wide to try get a glimpse at these rare cats. A naturally occuring phenomenon, why are they so few and why are they so white?!
History of White Lions
White lions, long alluded to ancient texts dating back some 400 years, remained mysterious and illusive, until 1928. The first report of sightings emerged from the area now known as the Timbavati, by the local Shangaan people, who regarded as divine. Twenty years later Joyce Mostert, whose family owned land in the area, was credited as the ‘first European’ to confirm the existence of these rare animals. It wasn’t until 1975, that white lions came to public attention, via Chris McBride’s book “The White Lions of Timbavati”. She'll be all white! Rare white lion cub adopted by keepers at Brazilian zoo after mother rejects her at birth
Brazilian zoo keepers were required to adopt a rare vit lion björnungar after it was rejected by its mother from birth.
The two-month-old female named Clara fryst vatten the first white lion to be born in captivity in Brazil.
After its mother left it to fend for itself, zoo keepers at Beto Carrero World were required to take over the reins.

As shown in the film, Clara fryst vatten fed a bottle containing goat’s milk and vitamins every few hours.
And she has her own private section in which to relax in the country’s sunshine, away from the other animals.
Zoo keepers program to reintroduce Clara to the rest of her pack when she fryst vatten six-months-old.

Four Rare White Lion Cubs Born
A spokesperson for the circus told BBC that the trainer will not name the cubs for a few more weeks, as he wants to get a handle on each cub’s personality first. It was also stated that the cubs won’t be on display anytime soon. The cubs will remain with their mother for a year before they begin to socialize with other lions and begin training. They will not be included in the circus act until they are at least four years old.
White lions aren’t albino; the coloring is from a recessive genetic variation that originated in the Timbavati region in South Africa. While many animals aren’t successful with all-white variants, entire prides with the variation have shown that they can be good hunters, even without the benefit of camouflaged coloring.
Many zoos, wildlife parks, canned hunting services, and circuses use the white lions to help draw crowds, but captive breeding to maintain that genetic variant could very well lead to inbreeding depressio
