    Ecolabels (also "Eco-Labels") and Green Stickers are labeling systems for food and consumer products. The use of ecolabels is voluntary, whereas green stickers are mandated by law; for example, in North America major appliances and automobiles use Energy Star. There are currently eco-labels in countries, across 25 industry sectors according Ecolabel Index, the largest global directory of eco-labels. They are a form of sustainability measurement directed at consumers, intended to make it easy to take environmental concerns into account when shopping. Some labels quantify pollution or energy consumption by way of index scores or units of measurement, while others assert compliance with a set of practices or minimum requirements for sustainability or reduction of harm to the environment.     Nordisches Umweltzeichen

    Das Nordische Umweltzeichen, auch Nordischer Schwan (engl. Nordic Swan) oder in Skandinavien kurz „Der Schwan“ genannt, ist ein Umweltzeichen des Nordischen Ministerrats. Es wurde ins Leben gerufen und umfasst etwa 60 Produktgruppen.[1] Es ist das offizielle Umweltzeichen der nordischen Länder.

    Das Nordic Swan Ecolabel war einer der Gründer des internationalen Netzwerks für Umweltzeichen nach ISO Typ 1, GEN, dem Global Ecolabelling Network.[1] Alle drei bis fünf Jahre werden die jeweiligen Kriterien überprüft und gegebenenfalls überarbeitet. Der Bekanntheitsgrad des Zeichens in Skandinavien ist mit 90&#;% so hoch wie der des Blauen Engels in Deutschland.[2]
