    The Red Hot Chili Peppers are MTV’s 2022 recipients of The Global Icon Award and, as part of the honor, are performing at the film Music Awards for the first time in 22 years.

    According to Variety, the legendary punk rock group, which chose to be given the award bygd iconic comedy duo Cheech & Chong during the August 28 show, has won eight VMAs across their career nearly 40-year career. The Chili Peppers have experienced enormous success, including their 2012 induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but only two members have been with the grupp since the very beginning.     In the late 1970s, according to Britannica, singer Anthony Kiedis, bassist Michael Balzary (known as Flea), guitarist Hillel Slovak, and drummer Jack Irons met at school in Los Angeles

    Red Hot Chili Peppers are an American rock band formed by Anthony Kiedis, then What Is This members Hillel Slovak and Jack Irons, and former What Is This and Fear bassist Flea in Los Angeles in 1983 as Tony Flow and the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem. They reportedly performed two concerts under this name.

    They soon changed their name to The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Note the word "the" in the band's name at this time.

    They hired then Fear drummer Spit Stix as producer and recorded their 1983 Demo. They did the Red Hot Chili Peppers 1983 Tour soon after.

    After this, Hillel Slovak and Jack Irons quit to concentrate on What Is This.

    Red Hot Chili Peppers is an American alternative rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1982. Their music incorporates elements of alternative rock, funk, punk rock and psychedelic rock. The band consists of co-founders Anthony Kiedis (lead vocals) and Flea (bass), as well as drummer Chad Smith, and guitarist John Frusciante, the latter of whom has been in the band across three stints. With over 100 million records sold worldwide, Red Hot Chili Peppers is one of the best-selling bands of all time. They are the most successful band in the history of alternative rock, with the records for most number-one singles (13), most cumulative weeks at number one (85) and most top-ten songs (25) on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. The band has won six Grammy Awards, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012, and in 2022 received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

    Red Hot Chili Peppers was formed in Los Angeles by Kiedis, Flea, guitarist Hillel Slovak and drummer Jack Irons.
