About
MARIO M. CUOMO was born in Queens, New York; he graduated from St. John’s University and later received his law degree from St. John’s School of Law. He served as confidential legal assistant to Judge Adrian P. Burke of the New York State Court of Appeals and entered private law practice in 1958. He first came to public notice in 1972 when he resolved the Forest Hills housing controversy at the request of Mayor John Lindsay. He became New York’s secretary of state in 1975 and was elected lieutenant governor in 1978. He was first elected governor in 1982, and he was reelected in 1986 and 1990. Noted for his powerful keynote address at the 1984 Democratic Convention, Cuomo also authored three books. He chaired the Coalition of Northeastern Governors.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo is the 56th Governor of New York, having assumed office on January 1, 2011. Born on December 6, 1957, Gov. Cuomo was the second child of Mario Cuomo & Matilda Raffa Cuomo. Gov. Cuomo graduated from Fordham University in the Bronx in 1979 and received his law degree from Albany Law School in 1982. After law school, Gov. Cuomo headed the Transition Committee for then Governor-Elect Mario Cuomo and then served as an advisor to the Governor. At the age of 28, he founded the Housing Enterprise for the Less Privileged (HELP) – a not-for-profit that set a national model for serving the homeless. After the 1996 election, President Clinton appointed Gov. Cuomo to serve as HUD Secretary. In 2006, Andrew Cuomo was elected New York State Attorney General. In November 2018, Gov. Cuomo was re-elected with the largest number of votes of any governor in both the primary and the general elections.
