Christopher Peter Meloni (; born April 2, )[1][2] is an American actor. He is known for portraying NYPD Detective Elliot Stabler on the NBC legal drama series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (–, –present) and its spin-off Organized Crime (–present), for which he was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award. He also played Chris Keller on the HBO prison drama Oz (–), and starred in and executive produced the Syfy series Happy! (–).

Early life and education
[edit]Meloni was born in Washington, D.C., the youngest of three children of Cecile (née Chagnon; –),[3] a homemaker, and Charles Robert Meloni (–), an endocrinologist.[4][5][ • Christopher Peter Meloni portrays Mort in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Born in Washington D.C., Christopher attended St. Stephen's School for high school and obtained a degree in history from University of Colorado at Boulder. He moved to New York City where he studied acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse. He began appearing in commercials and later some TV and movies. His first big role came in when he secured a recurring role in 11 episodes of 1st & Ten. Shortly after he appeared in 17 episodes of the short lived The Fanelli Boys as Frankie Fanelli. He then was cast as a voice in the comedy series Dinosaurs. In Meloni appeared in 8 episodes of Misery Loves Company shortly followed by a five-episode stint on NYPD Blue.
